College Corners School House
Last week we visited the College Corners one room school house in rural Dekalb County. The Schoolhouse is owned by Devries Weicht. We wish to thank him for the use of the School House and grounds for our field trip. We also thank the Dekalb County Draft Horse Club for their time to give us the horse drawn wagon rides. Mrs. Miller was a driver of Myron's team of American Spotted Draft Horses named Ruddy and Rowdy. Thanks to another Draft Horseman, Mr. Bob Miller, for our lesson on the Chuck Wagon and the chuck wagon stew. Thanks to all of the members and adults that helped to serve the stew. It was a fun day. Click on Mrs. Becher's site to see pictures of the school, the draft horses, Cooky and the chuck wagon.
Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day was November 11, 2011. We visited the Laurel's of DeKalb Nursing Home on November 9, 2011. We celebrated with Veteran residents and also celebrated the birthday of a resident, Janice Hollabaugh who was 100 years old on Veteran's Day, 11/11/11. It was also the birthday of Katie Zimmerman. The American Legion visited us with some of their members and presented a program for the school. Here are some reactions from the students from last week's visit to the nursing home.

It was fun today. I had a piece of cake and I had refreshments. It was a very fun day. I got to sit at the Laurels of Dekalb Nursing Home with an older person. I sang, "You're a Grand Old Flag and God Bless America in front of older people and that made me happy.

The Nursing Home was fun. The cake was good too. I gave this one lady a poppy. She gave me a hug. She was sweet to me. I feel sorry for them. It was so much. Those old people were sweet to us today.. I like old people because they are sweet to us a lot. I was so excited last night and this morning. I had the best morning ever today. Did you? Well, I did!

One day I, Xander Web, had a wonderful day at Laurels Nursing Home. I had an adventure by doing my part in the play and singing "The Grand Old Flag". I asked the men and women questions and ate cake.
